What are the guidelines to prepare the video for upload?

Please follow the specified parameters and make sure the file name does not contain an invalid special character when uploading the video.

All of the following video file parameters must be met prior to attempting to upload into PASS.

  • ✔  File extension allowed: MP4 or MOV
  • ✔  Max file size allowed: 600 MB
  • ✔  File name allowed:
    • Uppercase characters (A through Z)
    • Lowercase characters (a through z)
    • Numerals (0 through 9)
    • Non-alphabetic characters (period, hyphen, underscore)
  • ✔  Max video length: 15 minutes
  • ✔  Resolution: 1280 x 720

It is recommended that you compress the video before uploading. See the Video Optimizing section.

Why can’t I hear the audio from my video?

The first step is to ensure that the sound output on your device is working and the video recorded with sound.

Method 1: Unmute the video
It is possible that the video sound is turned off. Look for the sound icon on the playbar, check to see if there is a “\” showing on the speaker icon. If yes, click on it to unmute the sound.
Method 2: Use a different browser
We recommend using the Google Chrome web browser to test play your video for visual and audio. Try to watch the video in a different browser by dragging and dropping your video into a web browser to play the video.
Why can’t I see the video?

A video ths has no visual could be caused by codec issues. You will need to re-encode your video using software like iMovie, PowerPoint, HandBrake or other tools to display for the web. We recommend to encode the video with a H264 codec, at 720p resolution, and output as MP4 file format.

I did a Zoom recording. Which file should I use for the video?

A recording from Zoom will generate several files collected into a folder on your computer. The file with MP4 extension should contain the video and audio. Click play or open the MP4 in Google Chrome to make sure you can hear the audio and see the video display correctly.

What software can I use to edit videos?

There are many free video editing software. Some students used Avidemux, iMovie, and other programs. You can also try MiniTool MovieMaker. Each vendor has tutorials and documentation on how to use the software on their respective websites. It is freeware and may be downloaded and installed at your own risk to your personal computer, free of charge using the following link: https://moviemaker.minitool.com

What software can I use to optimize and compress my video?

You can use any software like iMovie, Microsoft PowerPoint and other programs. You can also try Handbrake. It is a freeware and may be downloaded and installed at your own risk to your personal computer, free of charge using the following link: https://handbrake.fr

How to save your evaluations as a PDF to submit to BlackBoard?

Once the video assessment has been completed by your coach, you can go in and click on the view results link. Your screen in PASS needs to be showing everything: your video, tags, self-evaluation and coach evaluation. Next, complete the next steps based on your computer type.

Windows (PC) Users:

  • (Chrome & Firefox): Right mouse-click, select print, change your printer dropdown menu to “save as pdf” and then hit save.
  • (Internet Explorer): Select print, if there is no “save to pdf” option select “Microsoft XPS Document Writer and then select print.
  • You will be asked to name the file and chose where to save the file on your computer so you can access it later.

Mac Users:

  • (Chrome and Firefox): File, select print, then click on the PDF link in the lower left-hand corner, click on “save to PDF”.
  • (Safari): File, select “export to PDF”, save the PDF to your preferred location
  • Printing to PDF will put the whole PASS screen into a long PDF document.

  • ✔  File name allowed:

    • Numerals (0 through 9)
    • Non-alphabetic characters (period, hyphen, underscore)

It is recommended that you compress the document before uploading.

My document is too large. How do I reduce the document size?

If the file exceeded the maximum file size allowed per document of 1MB, you can follow the steps below to reduce the document size.

Steps to reduce document size (MAC):

  1. Open your file in Microsoft Word
  2. Go to File > Reduce File Size
  3. A pop-up window will show options for Compress Picture Quality.
  4. Choose “Web (150ppi)”
  5. Check the box “Delete cropped areas of pictures”
  6. Click OK
  7. Save your file(s) as PDF

Steps to reduce document size (PC):

  1. Open your file in Microsoft Word
  2. Go to Format tab, then click on Compress Pictures
  3. A pop-up window will show options for Compress Picture Quality.
  4. Check the box “Delete cropped areas of pictures”
  5. Choose “Web (150ppi)”
  6. Click OK
  7. Save your file(s) as PDF
